What are recommendations in The Yield app?
A recommendation is a set of weather and / or growing conditions that governs when specific on-farm actions should take place, for example, the actions to take when conditions are best for spraying.
Check out Recommendations in The Yield mobile app explained for more information on how recommendations work and are displayed in the app.
What recommendations could I have in my app?
Below are some example recommendations that you could set to display within your app. The thresholds for each recommendation can be tailored to your business' needs. Please speak with The Yield Support team should you wish to discuss adding any of the below to your app.
This risk indicates when low temperatures are predicted to occur over the next 7 days increasing the risk of a frost event. This alert will help staff prepare frost mitigation strategies, such as irrigation and frost protection foliar sprays.
- Red = risk of frost is expected to be high when the temperature is below 2°C for more than 2 hours.
- Yellow = risk of frost is expected to be moderate when the temperature is below 2°C for 1 hour.
- Green = risk of frost is expected to be low where the temperature is above 2°C.
This risk indicates when high temperatures are predicted to occur over the next 7 days increasing the risk of heat stress to crops. This alert will help staff mitigate heat stress in crops ensuring overhead or pulse irrigation is actioned (where applicable), or heat protection sprays are applied.
- Red = risk of an extreme heat event is expected to be high when the temperature is above 38°C for more than 2 hours.
- Yellow = risk of an extreme heat event is expected to be moderate when the temperature is above 35°C for 2 hours.
- Green = risk of an extreme heat event is expected to be low when the temperature is below 35°C.
Pests and Diseases
Including Russet, Anthracnose and Red Mite risk
- Red means that there is a high risk of an outbreak of European Red Mite and monitoring should begin.
- Yellow means that there is a high risk of an outbreak of European Red Mite, but due to recent heavy rains it’s unlikely that the mites will be visible on the trees. Re-commence monitoring once the colour returns to red.
- Green means that there is a low risk of an outbreak of European red mite due to cooler temperatures.
Spray Effectiveness for:
Metamitron
-
Red means that, if applied, Metamitron is expected to cause an aggressive thinning response.
-
Yellow means that, if applied, Metamitron is expected to cause a weak thinning response.
-
Green means that, if applied, Metamitron is expected to cause an average thinning response.
-
Grey means that a particular day or hour is not relevant for applying Metamitron.
Other:
Pollen effectiveness risk
Good pollination will happen when both good bee activity and ideal pollen effectiveness occur at the same time. This recommendation estimates the potential pollen release to help explain why the pollination was or wasn’t successful this year.
- Green = ideal pollination occurs when the night temperature is above 10°C and the day temperature is above 16°C for 3 days.
- Yellow = average pollination effectiveness occurs when conditions are neither ideal nor poor.
- Red = poor pollination occurs when humidity has been below 25% for more than 2 hours.
